Corrections Officers Testing Announced

The McHenry County Sheriff’s Office is now accepting applications for Corrections Officers.

Corrections Officers maintain the safety and security of our jail while ensuring proper care for those in custody.

To qualify, candidates must submit an online application and attend a required physical agility test (P.O.W.E.R. Test) and written exam on Saturday, October 25, 2025, at 8:00 a.m. 

Applications must be submitted with all required documents by noon on Friday, October 17, 2025.

All applicants must complete the P.O.W.E.R. Test to be considered for the position.

P.O.W.E.R. cards will not be accepted.

Qualifications to apply are as follows:

  • Age: Minimum 21 years of age. Applicants may test at 20 but must be 21 upon hiring.
  • Education: High school diploma or GED. 
  • Experience: No prior experience is required. Job training is provided upon hiring. 
  • Driver’s License: Applicant must possess a valid driver’s license. 
  • FOID Card: Applicant must possess or can obtain a Firearm Owners Identification Card (FOID) upon employment.
  • Residency: Employees must live within McHenry County, any bordering Illinois counties, or Kenosha and Walworth counties in Wisconsin, within one year of hiring. 
  • Pay & Benefits: Starting rate is $32.48 per hour or $67,554 annually.
  • Employees also receive paid holidays, paid vacation, annual raises, and sick time.

Medical, dental, and life insurance is offered by the County for the employee and dependents (co-pay).
