Lakewood’s Village Board has been more than a little agitated by the proposal to site a solar farm just west of the Village boundary.

The proposed solar farm Lakewood wants to stop.
The village newsletter reports, “At the August 12, 2025, Board Meeting, the Village Board unanimously approved a resolution opposing the proposed solar farm off Ballard Road, just West of the Village boundary.”
Here is the letter of opposition sent to McHenry County Board members:

Friday night at 5:30, the Village Board will meet at the RedTail Clubhouse to annex six properties which I’m guessing (because there is no comprehensive map of the seven parcels to be annexed) surround the proposal solar farm.
57.39 acres are included in the proposed westward expansion.
The Board is meeting at 5:30 Friday at the RedTail Clubhouse.

My concern is that the expansion of housing westward will results in Lakewood’s having more than 5,000 residents, which, in turn, results in a state mandate to have a local police pension fund.
Such funds in other municipalities have resulted in massive underfunding, leading, in some cases, to have to sell of sewage treatment plants.
