From the State’s Attorney:

MARKEEON L. NEAL SENTENCED TO TEN YEARS IN THE ILLINOIS DEPARTMENT OF CORRECTIONS FOR UNLAWFUL DELIVERY OF A CONTROLLED SUBSTANCE

McHenry County State’s Attorney Randi Freese announces that Markeeon L. Neal, 31, of Rockford, Illinois, was sentenced to ten years in the Illinois Department of Corrections for the offense of Unlawful Delivery of a Controlled Substance, a Class 1 felony.

The sentence was handed down after Neal entered a negotiated plea of guilty to the charge before the Honorable Judge Mark R Gerhardt.

On March 11, 2024, officers from Crystal Lake Police Department responded to an address on Terra Cotta Ave in response to an unresponsive male.

Despite their efforts, the male later passed away, with the cause of death determined to be an overdose of fentanyl.

Investigative efforts by CLPD officers determined that the individual had obtained the fentanyl from a person who had purchased the drugs from Neal.

Upon release from custody, Neal will be placed on Mandatory Supervised Release for a period of twelve months.

State’s Attorney Freese would like to thank the responding and investigative officers from the Crystal Lake Police Department that resulted in the identification of Neal as the person that sold the deadly drug.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant State’s Attorney Andrew Fisk.
