McHenry County Board Chairman Mike Buehler has appointed a committee to recommend a replacement for retiring County Administration Peter Austin.

His choices are logical from one point of view.

He picked the heads of all the Board’s committees.

Chairman Buehler has appointed the chairs of each County Board standing committee to serve as members of the Ad Hoc Committee on County Administrator Appointment.

  • Law & Government/Liquor – Chair Pam Althoff
  • Transportation – Chair Jim Kearns
  • Public Health and Community Services – Chair Traicie VonBergen
  • Planning, Environment & Development – Chair Larry Smith
  • Valley Hi Operating – Chair Mike Shorten
  • Administrative Services – Chair Joe Gottemoller
  • Finance & Audit – Chair Mike Skala

But, left out is the most experienced personnel profession on the Board, Terri Greeno, the just-retired head of Express Employment Professionals.

The first meeting is on September 11th. Greeno informs me she will be at the meeting, which will be held after the Committee of the Whole meeting.

After reading the article, Buehler adds this information:

“While the committee is composed of chairs of committees, the entire board is welcome to attend the meeting.  The entire board has been notified of this. This includes Terri Greeno. NON Ad Hoc committee members may submit any questions they might have prior to the meeting.

“This is the simplest & most inclusive way to accomplish our task that I can think of. I have heard no concerns regarding the process from any board member.”
