From the Coroner:
McHenry County Coroner, Dr. Michael Rein, announced that his office was contacted on March 9, 2026 at around 9:00 am by Northwestern McHenry Hospital to investigate the death of Jason Binzel, age 52, of Fox Lake.
Mr. Binzel was involved in a fire at his place of residence in Fox Lake and transported to Northwestern McHenry where he was pronounced deceased.
An autopsy was performed on March 10, 2026.
There are no preliminary findings at this time and toxicology is currently pending.
The Coroner’s Office is continuing to work collaboratively with Illinois State Fire Marshal, Fox Lake Police Department, Fox Lake Fire Department, Antioch Ambulance, and Northwestern McHenry Hospital during this investigation.
