From GOP gubernation candidate Darren Bailey:

urder of Loyola Student Raises Serious Questions About Public Safety and Failed Policies

Louisville, IL – Following the tragic killing of 18-year-old Loyola University student Sheridan Gorman near the Rogers Park lakefront, gubernatorial and former State Senator Darren Bailey says the incident is a direct result of failed leadership and failed policies.

Darren Bailey is issuing the following statement:

“Sheridan Gorman should be here today. Instead, her life was taken in a senseless act of violence while spending time with friends near campus. Her family is now living every parent’s worst nightmare.

New details surrounding this case raise deeply troubling questions. According to federal authorities, the individual charged in this murder is a Venezuelan national who is in the United States illegally. Immigration officials have confirmed the suspect in question had prior encounters with law enforcement and was released multiple times before this tragedy occurred.

Let me clear. Gorman’s brutal murder was not unpredictable. It was preventable.

Illinois families—especially in the suburbs and across Chicago—are asking why someone with prior arrests and immigration violations was allowed back into our communities.

And once again, they are asking – ‘Where is Governor JB Pritzker?’

Hours after the brutal murder, Pritzker headlined a lavish white-tie Gridiron dinner with political elites –  even joking about deportations. Yesterday he was in San Francisco with Hilary Clinton and Nancy Pelosi.  Apparently, the safety of Illinois communities takes a back seat to his run for President. Illinois families deserve accountability. They deserve a leader who prioritizes the people of this state ahead of their own political ambitions. They deserve a Governor who not only respects the law but has the resolve to enforce it. JB Pritzker’s soft on crime policies must come to an end.

Illinois families deserve accountability. They deserve a leader who prioritizes the people of this state ahead of their own political ambitions. They deserve a Governor who not only respects the law but has the resolve to enforce it. JB Pritzker’s soft on crime policies must come to an end. Governor Pritzker and President Donald Trump must come together and find real solutions to protect Illinoisans. Families do not care about political fights – they care about the safety of their kids and their communities. Sheridan Gorman should be here today. Sadly, thanks to our Part-Time Pritzker, she isn’t.”
