In a ten-year old case the U.S. Supreme Court has ruled that illegal immigrants required to work for a private prison company for $1 a day have a right to sue.
The decision brushed aside the firm’s contention that is had sovereign immunity as a contractor for the Federal government.
When I stayed late at the old McHenry County Courthouse, there was a relatively old inmate who emptied the trash cans and swept the floors.
Getting out of the jail was considered a plus to be allowed to perform such work.
