From the Cary Fire Protection Distrit:

Fire Contained to Rear Deck on Moders Avenue

On Wednesday, February 25, 2026, at 11:29 a.m., the Cary Fire Protection District was dispatched to the 200 block of Moders Avenue in Cary after a homeowner reported flames coming from the rear deck of their residence.

Firefighters arrived within minutes and observed fire showing from the roofline of an attached enclosed rear deck.

Crews deployed hose lines to the rear of the home, and the fire was quickly extinguished.

An initial search of the residence confirmed that the sole occupant at home had escaped unharmed.

The fire was contained to the deck roof area and did not extend into the main portion of the home, allowing the residence to remain habitable.

“I’m proud of how our crews worked together to get this fire under control,” said Chief Brad Delatorre.

“They did a great job keeping the fire contained to the deck and preventing it from spreading into the home.

“We were also fortunate the homeowner was home at the time, because this could have been much worse if it had gone unnoticed.”

The roadway was closed for approximately one hour during the incident.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Cary Fire Protection District.

As a reminder, residents are encouraged to practice electrical safety and regularly check cords, outlets, and outdoor wiring for signs of damage.

If anything appears loose, damaged, or unsafe, it should not be used until it has been repaired or replaced.
