From the McHenry Township Fire Protection District:

2000 Block of Winterberry Trail

At approximately 4:25 p.m., the McHenry Township Fire Protection District (MTFPD) responded to a reported structure fire in the 2000 block of Winterberry Trail in Wonder Lake.

Crews arrived within four minutes and found a two-story single-family dwelling with heavy fire coming from the attached garage.

The resident advised crews that everyone had exited the home.

Upon arrival, firefighters initially knocked down the fire with a master stream device then undertook an aggressive interior attack and overhaul operations to extinguish the remaining fire.

During these efforts, crews rescued one cat.

Due to the extent of the fire, the Mutual Aid Box Alarm System (MABAS) was activated to the Box Alarm Level for additional manpower.

The MTFPD received assistance from Antioch, Cary, Crystal Lake, Fox Lake, Grayslake, Hebron, Lake Villa, Nunda, Richmond, Round Lake, Salem Lakes (WI), Spring Grove, Twin Lakes (WI), Wauconda, Waukegan, and Woodstock fire departments, as well as the Salvation Army.

Two civilians were transported to the hospital in good condition. No firefighter injuries were reported.

At this time, the home is deemed uninhabitable.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation and a damage estimate is not available.
