The McHenry County Conservation District is in the process of developing a plan between now and 2040.

Below is the comment of this Lakewood and District 47 resident:

With the improvements to the Kishwaukee River watershed made in the last two years by the Crystal Lake Park District in conjunction with the construction Lakewood Meadows Park, it is time for the adjacent Conservation District property to be similarly improved.

It is far past time for MCCD to open the property it purchased decades ago on Ballard Rod across from Brighton Oaks Park.

Originally the reason was because the seller had a life interest in the property.

That man is long gone, yet no effort has been made to open the site or cooperate with the Crystal Lake Park District in its recent upgrading of its part containing the Kishwaukee River.

Please note that the real estate in Crystal Lake Grade School District 47 pays almost 25% of MCCD’s property taxes, yet the major improvement is The Hollows, which was donated to MCCD by Material Service (gravel company), plus a bike path.

Pretty slim pickings, don’t you think?

Undoubted. a very poor return on the money taxpayers have poured in the MCCD coffers since its formation in 1971.
