From the State’s Attorney:

KRUSSEL STABLES OWNER DETAINED ON CHARGES OF AGGRAVATED CRIMINAL SEXUAL ABUSE AND CRIMINAL SEXUAL ASSAULT

McHenry County State’s Attorney Randi Freese announces that on February 6, 2026, the Honorable Judge Cynthia Lamb granted the State’s petition to deny pretrial release for Raymond Krussell, 52, of Richmond, Illinois.

Krussell appeared in Initial Appearance Court on February 6, 2026, charged with

  • Aggravated Criminal Sexual Abuse (class 1 felony),
  • Criminal Sexual Assault (class 1 felony),
  • Distribution of Harmful Material to a Minor (class 4 felony), and
  • Grooming (class 4 felony).

The petition was successfully argued for the State at the hearing by Assistant State’s Attorney Garrett Miller.

Evidence was presented that the McHenry County Sherriff’s Department began investigating Krussell when a female victim, now 18, reported that Krussell had sexually abused her while she worked at his stables in Richmond, beginning when she was just 15 years old.

Krussell first met the victim at Krussell Stables when she was a young child taking riding lessons.

When the victim got older, Krussell employed the child to work for him in exchange for stable expenses.

It is alleged that during this time Krussell began to groom the child, sending her sexually explicit images of himself via text messages.

It is further alleged that Krussell then began to sexually assault the child at least once per week for approximately a year when she was 16 to 17 years old.

State’s Attorney Freese commends Detective Carbajal of the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office for his quick and thorough investigative work in this case.

This investigation is ongoing.

If any member of the public has information regarding this incident or any similar incident involving the defendant, please file a report by contacting your local law enforcement agency or the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office.

Krussell will remain in the custody of the McHenry County Jail during the pendency of this case. Krussell’s next court appearance is scheduled for February 11, 2026, in courtroom 304.

Members of the public are reminded that this complaint contains only charges and is not proof of the defendant’s guilt. A defendant is presumed innocent and is entitled to a fair trial in which it is the government’s burden to prove his or her guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
