From the Coroner:
McHenry County Coroner, Dr. Michael Rein, announced that his office was contacted on December 31, 2025 to investigate a motor vehicle accident that occurred around the 17000 block on Rt. 173 in unincorporated Harvard.
The vehicle was on fire, and a positive ID could not be documented at that time. DNA was gathered, sent out and tested.
Results have determined that a positive identification is Kevin Rangel, age 28 of Harvard.
An autopsy was performed on January 6, 2026.
Preliminary findings showed aortic and liver lacerations.
Final results are still pending.
The Coroner’s Office is continuing to work collaboratively with McHenry County Sheriff, Hebron/Alden/Greenwood Fire Department during this investigation.
