The night before Governor George Ryan announced that there would be no more executions in Illinois, I was standing near his lawyer’s office.
WBBM was on the radio.
A reporter said Ryan was being investigated by a Grand Jury.
The next day Ryan announced no more inmates would be executed.
That was the story the next day, not that he was being investigated by a Grand Jury.
I’ve been watching “West Wing” (I know I’m over 25 years late) and one aspect that impressed me was staff concern with controlling the next newscycle.
