Debris Fire on Rawson Bridge Road
On Wednesday, January 28, 2026, at 9:13 p.m., the Cary Fire Protection District was dispatched for a reported structure fire near the intersection of Rawson Bridge Road and Beach Way Road in unincorporated Cary.
While responding, additional information received by 911 dispatchers indicated a possible explosion involving a residence.
Fire crews arrived within minutes in frigid, single-digit temperatures and located a pile of garbage, tools, and debris burning adjacent to a home in the 900 block of S. Rawson Bridge Road.
There was no evidence of a house explosion or a residence being on fire.
Firefighters quickly extinguished the fire and prevented it from spreading to the residence.
Once the fire was extinguished, the incident was downgraded and responding units from outside the area were returned.
It appears that several tires may have burst during the fire, which likely contributed to the reported explosion sound. No injuries were reported.

“Whether responding to fires, water rescues, or other serious emergencies, our firefighters have stepped up without hesitation to protect this community, even in the most challenging conditions. Their professionalism, teamwork, and commitment to service are evident in every call they answer.”
The incident remains under investigation by the Cary Fire Protection District.
