From the State’s Attorney:

JURY FINDS PREVIOUSLY CONVICTED FELON GUILTY OF ARMED VIOLENCE, MULTIPLE DRUG CHARGES AFTER THREE-DAY TRIAL

McHenry County State’s Attorney Randi L. Freese announces that on January 14, 2026, John T. Boland, 39, of Antioch, Illinois, was found guilty by a jury on

  • two counts of Armed Violence, Possession of a Weapon by a Felon,
  • Unlawful Possession of a Controlled Substance with Intent to Deliver,
  • Unlawful Possession of a Controlled Substance, and
  • Unlawful Possession of Methamphetamine.

The verdicts were reached following a three-day jury trial before the Honorable Judge Tiffany Davis.

Evidence presented at trial proved that on May 3, 2024, Boland, a convicted felon who at the time was on supervised release by the Illinois Department of Corrections, was traveling through the city of McHenry.

Officer Joshua Conway, who was on routine traffic patrol, was aware of an All-Points Bulletin (APB), issued on the car Boland was traveling in back in April of 2024, for previously having fled from law enforcement.

A stop of the vehicle and subsequent search inside recovered a backpack that was proven at trial to belong to Boland.

The contents of the backpack included a large amount of cocaine and methamphetamine pills, along with some of Boland’s personal items.

Further investigation and testimony, which was affirmed through DNA evidence, proved that Boland had also concealed a firearm on his person during the arrest.

McHenry County State’s Attorney Randi Freese would like to thank

  • the officers involved from the McHenry City Police Department,
  • forensic scientists Gina Havlik and Deepthi Nori of the Northern Illinois Regional Crime Laboratory,
  • Detective Jeff Fields of the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office, and
  • Officer Nicholas Behan of the Grayslake Police Department

for their hard work and assistance in the investigation and prosecution of this matter.

This case was successfully prosecuted at trial by Assistant State’s Attorneys Shelby Page and Justin Neubauer.
