“2025 McHenry County Officer of the Year” &
“2025 McHenry County Unit Citation” Award
On Friday, January 23rd, 2026, the McHenry County Chiefs of Police Association (MCCPA) hosted its annual McHenry County “Officer of the Year” and “Unit Citation Award” event.
The “Officer of the Year” is selected from nominations submitted by Chiefs of Police from throughout the county, and the award is designed to recognize exceptional and/or valorous service by an individual officer and his/her actions.
The “Unit Citation” award is selected from nominations submitted by Chiefs of Police from throughout the county, and the award is designed to recognize exceptional and/or valorous service by a group of individuals and their actions.
2025 Officer of the Year:
The McHenry County Chiefs of Police Association received two nominations:
- Detective Trevor Wogsland of the Algonquin Police Department for exceptional service during a Child Sex Assault Investigation
- Officer Mitch Marino of the Woodstock Police Department for rescuing a citizen from inside a burning residence
The MCCPA selected Officer Mitch Marino as the 2025 McHenry County Officer of the Year.
2025 Unit Citation Award:
The McHenry County Chiefs of Police Association received three nominations:
- Huntley PD Investigations Division for exceptional accomplishments by resolving
numerous difficult investigations with limited resources - McHenry PD/MCSO/SAO for the yearslong investigation and prosecution of an
individual who went on a firearm-involved crime spree in 2023 - MCSO Major Crash Unit for the difficult, but thorough, investigation of a fatal hit-and-
run crash involving a vehicle vs. pedestrian
The MCCPA selected the McHenry Police Department (with assistance from the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office and the States Attorney’s Office) for the 2025 McHenry County Unit Citation award.
The executive board of the MCCPA would like to highlight to everyone in McHenry County that these five nominations are only a sampling of the professional and dedicated public safety efforts that occur daily by law enforcement in McHenry County.
Every member of the McHenry County law enforcement community has dedicated themselves to keeping McHenry County one of the safest places to live, work, and play.
