The McHenry County Republican Party could not find a candidate willing to run against incumbent Democrat Gloria Van Hof.
The reason might be because she ran first when she last ran.
Unlike previous years, a party is not allowed to caucus in a candidate.
You may remember the Illinois Democrats passed a bill ending that practice two years ago.
Their timing was during such that Republicans intending to run would not be allowed to do so.
A court challenge was made and the candidates who sued were allowed on the ballot.
No such exception is possible this year.
