From McHenry County:
Online portal allows SNAP recipients to check eligibility
SNAP recipients can now check online to see if they are meeting new work requirements – and check if they are eligible for exemptions.
The portal can be found on the state Application for Benefits Eligibility website.
New federal requirements that took effect Dec. 1 require most people ages 18 to 64 to work or volunteer a minimum of 80 hours per month, or participate in qualifying training or education, to receive SNAP benefits. There are a number of exceptions, however.
If you receive these benefits, you need to familiarize yourself with the changes. Besides the portal we linked to in this article, please read this information sheet from the Illinois Department of Human Services, or call 800-843-6154.
If you don’t receive these benefits but know someone who does, please forward this email to them.
