It’s hard for me to believe, but some McHenry County Republican wanted Governor Rod Blagojevich to be the Lincoln Day Dinner speaker.
The closest Blago came to being a Republican was his father, whom Rod told me was a “Goldwater Republican” the night before he was sworn in as State Representative.
And party funds would have paid him.
One source said $5,000. e$6.500.
The purpose of fund raisers is to raise money.
Former GOP Chairman Sandy Salgodo figured that out.
One fundraiser was in a Lake in the Hills Airport hanger with her Armed Forces brother being the main speaker. That was the last time former State Treasurer Judy Barr Topinka visited McHenry County. She also spoke.
I remember when some Republican group, maybe the Central Committee, had Eddie Vrdolyak as a speaker at Turnberry Country Club. He was or had been Chairman of the Cook County Republican Party unlike Blagojevich whose only connection to the GOP is being pardoned over the objection of all Illinois Republican Members of Congress by President Donald Trump.
