Sheriff’s Office Investigates Single-Vehicle Crash Near Richmond

A 20-year-old man from Harvard was seriously injured following a single-vehicle crash in the 7700 block of Tryon Grove Road, east of Greenwood Road, in unincorporated McHenry County.

On Friday, December 19, 2025, at approximately 9:55 a.m., the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office, Richmond Police Department, and the Richmond Township Fire Protection District responded to a report of a single-vehicle crash in the area.

Preliminary investigation indicates a 2010 Hyundai Elantra was traveling eastbound on Tryon Grove Road when it left the roadway to the south, sideswiped two trees, and struck a fence.

The Hyundai sustained significant damage, resulting in serious injuries to the driver.

The driver, a 20-year-old male from Harvard, was transported by medical helicopter to Mercyhealth Javon Bea Hospital-Riverside in Rockford, where he is listed in serious condition.

The driver was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash. Airbags did deploy.

The crash remains under investigation by the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office Major Crash Investigation Unit.
