
When the Marengo Park District went to being open 24 hours, participation increased.
“It was dismal at best when I was elected in 2019,” wrote Park Board President Marty Mohr.
“It was basically closed from 2020 – 2021 thanks to multiple Pritzker EOs related to Covid.
“We did purchase some sanitizing equipment and allowed limited use.
“In April 2021 Dr. Bertrand presented quotes to upgrade security infrastructure to allow for 24/7 gym access.

“This included installing security cameras, keyless access points and adding an emergency phone in the fitness center.
“Upfront cost was $10,500 with recurring monitoring ~$200 / month.
“The Board approved Dr. Bertrand’s request. (This is where we ‘rolled the dice’ to invest in our assets).

“We also purchased CivicRec, which is software to help plan recreational activities. This also tracks Fitness Center usership.
“Here are our current user:

“We have seen year over year increases. In addition, we have 10 Marengo Police and Firefighters who use the gym as part of an IGA.
“We offer an add-on Sauna Membership for $10 a month.”
