From the Woodstock Fire/Rescue District:
Clay Street Closure Due to Potential Building Collapse
On Wednesday, December 3, 2025 at approximately 12:00 pm, the Woodstock Fire/Rescue District was notified by the City of Woodstock Building Department of significant structural compromise at Thompson Appliance, located at 318 Clay Street.
The Building Department reported an initial roof collapse, which had been discovered by the building owner.

The business was not open when the collapse occurred, and further assessment indicated an imminent collapse of the entire building.

Upon arrival, firefighters confirmed the Building Department’s assessment and established a secure perimeter around the property.

Clay Street between Church Street and Hutchins Street is closed to all vehicle and pedestrian traffic for an undetermined amount of time.
Representatives from Nicor and ComEd are on location securing utilities as a precaution.
No injuries have been reported.
The Woodstock Police Department is assisting with traffic control and scene security. Further assessments will determine when access to the area can resume.
Residents and visitors are asked to avoid the area and follow posted closures.
