When I was in the Illinois General Assembly in the 1970’s Democrat Gene Barnes and I conferred on how to make the Chicago Transit Authority trains safer.

We came up with the idea of cameras.

Barnes, a former CTA bus driver, went on to head the CTA under Mayor Harold Washington, with whom we both served in the House of Representatives.

Cameras obviously were not enough.

Now comes reporting of the lunatic who set fire to a woman on the CTA in London’s Telegraph:

Maybe Chicago will lose its worldwide reputation for being the city of mobsters.
