Don Tracy: Chicago, Illinois Demands Federal Help Stay Out. Then Buries Another Child

CHICAGO – The violence this past Friday in downtown Chicago, just steps from Millennium Park’s Christmas lights and holiday cheer, is a gut-wrenching reminder of how far we’ve fallen under the failed leadership of pro-criminal politicians like Mayor Brandon Johnson and Governor JB Pritzker.

What began as an “unauthorized event” advertised on social media spiraled into chaos: seven teens gunned down in a mass shooting outside the Chicago Theatre, followed by the fatal shooting of 14-year old Armani Floyd just blocks away.

This isn’t “silly kids” making silly decisions, as Johnson once dismissed these takeovers two years ago.

This is the deadly result of a lack of accountability for crime in the city.

In the past week, Chicago has seen

  • a mother and her 9-year-old son savagely beaten near Orville Bright Elementary,
  • a young woman set ablaze on a CTA train by a repeat offender whom three judges unleashed back on our streets, and
  • now this preventable massacre amid holiday crowds.

For 13 straight years, Chicago has led the nation in murders.

Don Tracy issued the following statement in response:

“My opponents, Raja Krishnamoorthi, Juliana Stratton, and Robin Kelly, have backed the disastrous pro-criminal policies that have led to this crisis.

Their response to offers of help from the federal government was to decry it as facism.

Even the communist Mayor-Elect of New York met with the President to see how they could work together this week.

But Governor Pritzker and Mayor Johnson refuse to work with the federal government to curb street violence.

“A fundamental duty of government is public safety, and on that front, Illinois and Chicago have utterly failed. Something has to change.

“As your next U.S. Senator, one of my priorities will be to bring local and federal law enforcement together to protect our communities.

This is  common sense which is working in other high crime cities like DC and Memphis.

No parent should have to bury a child or crowdfund an escape from their neighborhood.

Before it’s too late, we must get back to  prioritizing crime victims and law-abiding families over violent criminals and street mobs.”
