From the Cary Fire Protection District:
Firefighters Stop Progression of Marshland Fire
On Saturday, November 15, 2025 at 3:13 p.m., the Cary Fire Protection District was dispatched to the area of W. Rawson Bridge Road and Crystal Lake Road for an outdoor smoke investigation.

While en route, an additional caller reported heavy smoke in the 6300 block of W. Rawson Bridge Road.

Firefighters arrived and confirmed smoke was coming from the rear of a home in the 6300 block of W. Rawson Bridge Road.

Crews proceeded to the backyard to investigate and located heavy fire traveling through the cattails behind the residence and extending into the surrounding marshland.

Hose lines were deployed and portable water supplies were brought to the area to control the progression of the fire.
A rural water supply operation was proactively established at the roadway due to the unknown amount of water that would be needed.
Additional brush fire apparatus and manpower were requested from the Fox River Grove Fire Protection District and the Nunda Rural Fire Protection District.

The fire was considered under control within 90 minutes. In total, nearly four acres of limited access marshland were consumed by fire.
Crews began clearing the scene shortly after 6:00 p.m. after extinguishing final hotspots.
No injuries were reported and the cause remains under investigation. Cary Fire appreciates the assistance from the Fox River Grove Fire Protection District, the Nunda Rural Fire Protection District, and our dispatchers.
