Don Tracy: NYC’s Socialist Experiment is a Warning for Illinois

SPRINGFIELD – It’s Election Day in New York City, where voters will choose the next mayor. Zohran Mamdani, an unapologetic socialist, leads in the polls over former Gov. Andrew Cuomo and Republican Curtis Sliwa.

Mamdani, a 33-year-old Queens assemblyman, holds a double-digit lead, with Polymarket giving him 89-92% odds. His potential victory won’t just impact NYC’s 8.4 million residents. It will bring socialism further into the national spotlight, joining Brandon Johnson and six Democratic Socialists on the Chicago City Council.

As the world watches NYC become the far-left’s latest experiment, U.S. Senate Candidate Don Tracy responded saying:

“Today, New Yorkers may embrace Zohran Mamdani’s radical socialist agenda and policies that have failed everywhere from Europe to Venezuela to San Francisco. But NYC’s looming experiment will very likely serve as a warning to the rest of the country.

“In Illinois, like New York, we have a major city grappling with too much crime, economic instability, and record population loss. Chicago voters elected the most progressive mayor in our history based on soaring campaign promises that had little basis in reality. The result of the Brandon Johnson failure: hiking taxes on fleeing businesses, slashing police budgets amid violent crime, and  sanctuary policies that strain resources, leading to working families and jobs exiting Chicago. These are the consequences of prioritizing radical ideology over common sense government.

“Chicago’s struggles and New York City’s pending experiment should serve as warnings. In November 2026, Illinois voters will face a choice: double down on the failed policies of the far-left or chart a new course.

“I’m running for U.S. Senate to restore common sense and defend the American dream. I will stand for everyday Illinoisans over extreme agendas.”
