From the State’s Attorney:
COURT GRANTS STATE’S ATTORNEY’S OFFICE’S PETITION TO DETAIN MAN WHO DISTRIBUTED CHILD PORNOGRAPHY
McHenry County State’s Attorney Randi Freese announced today that the Honorable Judge Cynthia Lamb granted the State’s motion to deny pretrial release for Alexander Grant, 45, of Huntley, Illinois. Grant appeared in Initial Appearance Court on October 24, 2025, charged with 10 counts of Dissemination of Child Pornography, class X felonies, and 3 counts of Possession of Child Pornography, class 2 and 3 felonies.

Evidence was presented in court this afternoon that Grant, while using a BitTorrent program, successfully made a peer-to-peer direct connection with a computer run by the Batavia Police Department on May 18, 2025.
The connection with Grant’s computer was able to download 176 files, 2 of which contained multiple videos of child pornography.
While the investigation was pending into the first connection, Grant’s computer connected for a second time with a law enforcement computer on July 20, 2025, wherein Grant distributed seven additional files of child pornography.
“Possession and distribution of child sex abuse materials perpetuates a marketplace for these heinous crimes against children,” Freese stated.
State’s Attorney Freese commends the Batavia Police Department and the Huntley Police Department for their thorough investigation into this matter.
Grant’s next court appearance is scheduled for October 31, 2025.
Members of the public are reminded that this complaint contains only charges and is not proof of the defendant’s guilt. A defendant is presumed innocent and is entitled to a fair trial in which it is the government’s burden to prove his or her guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
