After reading the email chain concerning The Travis Mills Foundation‘s interest in locating a second facility on the Fox River in McHenry, I asked Tony Esposito for addition details.
Esposito’s reply follows:
“With regard to the site itself, both representatives from The Travis Mills Foundation that came for a visit on 7/14 admired downtown McHenry’s charm and the progress made and said that the site on the water would allow for all of the activities they provide in Maine, plus the additional benefit of being so close to
- downtown McHenry,
- the VFW,
- The American Legion,
- The PLAV,
- Miller Point, Veterans Memorial Park and
- the Lovell Veteran Medical Facility.
The photo shows Miller Point to the left. Our Townhomes on Waukegan Rd line the shore of the inlet to the right of the property which is close to a peninsula. We are across from Miller Point and Waukegan Rd runs parallel to that inlet which is called Boone Creek. The intersection of Waukegan Rd and Green St is a 4-Way stop and there is no where for a massive traffic increase go. Mchenry Country Club lines the shore to the left in the picture across the inlet from where the piers. The City of McHenry owns those piers.
“And since The Travis Mills Foundation is working to secure its own financing, local TIF funds could be allocated to extend the McHenry Riverwalk past D’s Marine and make the propety accessible for walking and handicapped Veterans.
“So why is Jett feigning support for this by saying he’d pay out of his own pocket for the travel expenses when it’s obviously a legitimate travel expense for him and a staff member?
“I believe it’s because he wants high density apartments built there and doesn’t care about the destruction and congestion it would cause to
- the adjacent townhomes,
- Riverside Residence Senior Living Community,
- McHenry East High School all
all west of the site on Waukegan Rd.
“Furthermore, the entire local McHenry Community within a mile radius of the intersection of Green St & Waukegan Rd would see an addition of nearly 2,000 more cars.”
