From the State’s Attorney:

HEATHER L SCHULTZ SENTENCED TO SIX AND A HALF YEARS IN THE ILLINOIS DEPARTMENT OF CORRECTIONS FOR DRUG-INDUCED HOMICIDE

McHenry County State’s Attorney Randi L. Freese announces that on October 1, 2025, Heather L. Schultz, 45, of Union, Illinois, was sentenced to six and a half years in the Illinois Department of Corrections for the Class X felony offense of Drug-Induced Homicide. Schultz was sentenced by the Honorable Judge Mark Gerhardt after entering a negotiated plea of guilty.

On January 27, 2025, officers from the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to an address on Ridgefield Road in Crystal Lake regarding a call of a man unconscious and non-responsive.

Upon arrival, officers found that responding emergency personnel had determined the man to be deceased.

An investigation determined that the cause of death was methadone toxicity.

Further investigative efforts determined that Schultz had sold the man methadone the evening prior to his death.

Truth-in-Sentencing requires that Schultz serve a minimum of 75% of her sentence in the Illinois Department of Corrections. Upon release, she will be placed on Mandatory Supervised Release for a period of eighteen months.

State’s Attorney Freese continues to appreciate the efforts of the members of the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Task Force in investigating the persons responsible for the delivery of deadly narcotics in McHenry County.

“If you deliver poison in our community, you can expect that our law enforcement partners and our office will aggressively work to identify you, find you, and hold you accountable,” Freese stated.

This case was successfully prosecuted by First Assistant Ashur Y. Youash.
