Contested Democratic Primary for Kane County Treasurer

Democrats are serious about flipping this office and retiring Lauzen 4 years early.

The establishment Democrat running is 2-term County Auditor Penny Wegman of Elgin.

Wegman is the daughter of 6-term Kane County Recorder Sandy Wegman (R, Elgin) and the Wegman name is strong all over Kane County including in Lauzen’s hometown of Aurora.

Wegman faces at least 2 Democrats in the primary: Scott Johansen of Campton Hills who lost a 2022 general election for county board.

The other Democratic treasurer candidate is 2022 Republican 66th Representative District nominee Connie Cain of Gilberts.

Wegman (age late 40s) will be strong favorite over septuagenarian Johansen and late 60-something and Republican-turned-Democrat CPA Cain as she brings youth and experience to her candidacy. To my knowledge Wegman has never lost an election (Gail Borden Library Board, Kane County Board, County Auditor).

A Lauzen vs Wegman general election?

That would be Lauzen’s toughest race since his two 2008 congressional primary losses against Jim Oberweis.
