From McHenry County:

Talk and Tour Event Will Highlight Water Reuse

WOODSTOCK, Ill. – The next presentation in the McHenry County Talk and Tour best management practices series will focus on reducing water waste through reuse.

The presentation, “Water Resue in McHenry County and Beyond,” will take place from 1 to 3 p.m. Friday, Sept. 26, at the Village of Huntley West Wastewater Treatment Plant, 12601 Main St.

The demands facing our finite water supplies today are not the demands we will face tomorrow.

As we are seeing across the country, a single new industry can strain water supplies. [Think a data center.]

Water reuse can be a logical new source of water supply to help communities meet growing demands into the future.

The featured speaker will be Sharon Waller, Commissioner of the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago and one of our region’s leading experts on water reuse.

The program will also feature a presentation demonstrating how the Village of Huntley has been successfully implementing water reuse for irrigation purposes.

The event is free, but attendees must register in advance online; directions and parking instructions will be sent upon receipt of an RSVP.

This is the fourth year of the Talk and Tour program, which was created in 2022 by the McHenry County Planning and Development Department and the Environmental Defenders of McHenry County.

These workshops showcase the environmental and economic benefits of innovative best management practices that have been successfully implemented in our region.

Each of the best management practices are designed to protect and maintain the integrity of natural resources, reduce flooding in communities, and promote land, water and energy conservation.
