CRIMINAL CHARGES FILED IN FATAL TRAFFIC
The McHenry County Sheriff’s Office announces the results of a 3 month long investigation into a fatal traffic crash resulting in the arrest of Alyssa Popp, for Aggravated Driving While Under the Influence of Drugs (Involving Death).
On August 7, 2021 the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office responded to the 4300 block of Rt. 31, unincorporated Ringwood, reference a two-vehicle traffic crash.
On scene investigation indicated a 2021 GMC Acadia was traveling northbound on Rt. 31, a 2015 Acura LX was traveling southbound on Rt. 31.
The driver of the GMC Acadia, identified as Alyssa Popp, crossed the center line of the roadway and collided head-on with the Acura TLX.
The driver of the Acura, identified as Christina Smith of Elmhurst, was pronounced deceased on-scene.
Arrested: Alyssa Popp, 30, Fort Atkinson, Wisconsin
Charges:
- Aggravated Driving While Under the Influence of Drugs (Involving Death) – Class 2 Felony
- Driving While Under the Influence of Drugs – Class A Misdemeanor
- Improper Lane Usage – Petty Offense
