Residents invited to take part in Fox River cleanup and celebration.
ALGONQUIN, IL – The Village of Algonquin will once again join the region-wide It’s Our Fox River Day celebration with a community cleanup event on Saturday, September 20, 2025, at Cornish Park (101 S Harrison St, Algonquin).
From 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., volunteers will gather to help remove litter and debris along the Fox River riverbank in the spirit of environmental stewardship and community pride.
Volunteers are encouraged to come prepared for outdoor conditions by wearing sturdy footwear and dressing appropriately for walking along the riverbank.
Participants should bring work gloves, while cleanup supplies will be provided on-site.
“It’s Our Fox River Day is a wonderful opportunity for our community to come together in support of one of our most treasured natural resources,” said Village President Debby Sosine.
“The Fox River is central to Algonquin’s identity and vitality, and this event reminds us that protecting it is both a shared responsibility and a source of community pride.”
It’s Our Fox River Day is the largest demonstration of watershed-wide protective and celebratory action in the Fox River Valley.
The watershed encompasses more than 2,500 square miles and serves over 1 million residents.
The river provides drinking water to more than 300,000 people, carries wastewater and stormwater from over 100 communities, and offers vital habitat for plants and wildlife.
Beyond its ecological value, the Fox River supports recreation for boaters, paddlers, anglers, hikers, and photographers, while also adding significant economic and aesthetic value to every riverfront community.
The Village of Algonquin invites residents, families, and community groups to join in this year’s event and make a difference in protecting the Fox River for generations to come. For more information about It’s Our Fox River Day and the regional celebration, visit https://friendsofthefoxriver.org.
