The Chicago Tribune reminds me of the fall of 1959:

As I was passing the shop classroom at CLCHS, I heard a couple of guys bragging about how the White Sox were going to cream the Dodges in four games.

Being a 1958 transplant from Middletown, New York, where I had routed for the Brooklyn Dodgers, then relocated to Los Angeles, I said, “Wanna bet?”

One agreed.

“How much?”

“$5.”

I told him he would have to give me 2-1 odds.

He agreed.

I won.
