It was 9-11, so I guess it is not unusual for American Flags to be flown at half-mast.
The first one I saw was at Chick-f-A in Algonquin.
Driving past the Crystal Lake City Hall, there was the same show of respect.

In the better late than never category, the Sage YMCA finally lowered its American Flag to half-mast after prompting by John Pletz:
