Fatal Traffic Crash near McHenry
On September 9, 2025, at about 11:15 a.m. the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office, McHenry Police Department and McHenry Fire Protection District responded to a two-vehicle crash in the 2500 block of Ringwood Road, south of Martin Road, in unincorporated McHenry.
A 2020 Ford Explorer was traveling northbound on Ringwood Road when a 2013 Toyota Highlander, traveling southbound, entered the northbound lane and struck the Explorer head-on.
The driver and sole occupant of the Highlander, a 77-year-old man from McHenry, was transported to Northwestern Hospital in McHenry where he was pronounced deceased.
The driver of the Explorer, a 32-year-old woman from Wonder Lake, and two juvenile children were also transported to Northwestern Hospital in McHenry with non-life-threatening injuries.
The crash remains under investigation by McHenry County Sheriff’s Office Major Crash Investigation Unit.

From the McHenry Township Fire Protection District:
On Tuesday, September 9th, at approximately 11:14 a.m., the McHenry Township Fire Protection District (MTFPD) responded to a motor vehicle accident involving two vehicles at the intersection of Ringwood and Martin Road in unincorporated McHenry.
Crews arrived within three minutes to find a two-vehicle accident with heavy damage and four patients.
One vehicle, an SUV, had an adult female driver and two children in it.
The female driver was trapped, but bystanders had already removed the children from the vehicle prior to our arrival.
The other vehicle, also an SUV, was occupied by an adult male driver, who was also trapped.
The call was upgraded to bring additional MTFPD resources and the LifeNet medical helicopter to the
scene.
Paramedics immediately began advanced life support measures while Firefighters began extricating the trapped victims.
It took approximately fifteen minutes to have both drivers extricated.
The children were transported by ambulance to Northwestern Hospital – McHenry for evaluation in
good condition.
The female driver was transported to Northwestern Hospital – McHenry with serious injuries but was stable.
The male driver of the other SUV was also transported to Northwestern Hospital – McHenry in critical condition.
The LifeNet medical helicopter crew assisted MTFPD during ground transport to the hospital.
The accident is under investigation by the McHenry County Sheriff’s Police.
