Garage Fire on Coral Road Contained by Firefighters
On Friday, August 22, 2025, at 2:28 p.m., the Marengo Fire & Rescue Districts responded to the 21000 block of West Coral Road after the homeowner reported a fire in their attached garage of a single-family residence.

Firefighters arrived and observed heavy fire showing from the garage.

Given the extent of the fire and the rural location, the incident was upgraded through the Mutual Aid Box Alarm System (MABAS) to the box level for additional water, manpower, and resources.

Crews conducted an aggressive fire attack while additional personnel established operations and a rural water supply operation from the roadway.

The main body of fire was contained within 20 minutes of arrival.

Firefighters also made entry into the home to conduct a search and confirmed the fire had not extended into the living spaces or attic.

The residence sustained smoke damage, but no fire damage inside.
Crews completed ventilation and overhaul operations on the garage, after which fire investigators conducted a preliminary assessment before all units cleared the scene at approximately 5:15 p.m.
Two individuals were at the property when the fire broke out, and no injuries were reported.
A total of six residents are displaced, and the American Red Cross has been requested to provide temporary assistance to the family.
Sadly, a dog was located deceased in the garage.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Marengo Fire & Rescue Districts.
The Marengo Fire & Rescue Districts would like to thank the Algonquin, City of Belvidere, Boone County Fire District 2, Crystal Lake, Genoa-Kingston, Hampshire, Harvard, Hebron, Huntley, Union, and Woodstock Fire Departments for their assistance, as well as the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office and Marengo Police Department for their support on scene.
