My father was President of the Easton Town Council, head of the city’s legislative branch.

He took the family to a variety show at the Armory down the street.

I’m guessing because he was an elected official he thought he had to buy tickets.

It was sponsored by the Elks Club.

One of the acts had white men with black faces and I remember white lips.

It seemed very strange to me when I must have been under ten.
