Now Accepting Applications for Citizens Police Academy
The McHenry County Sheriff’s Office is now accepting applications for its 10-week Citizens Police Academy (CPA), an interactive program designed to give community members a behind-the-scenes look at law enforcement.
When & Where:
- Dates: Tuesdays, September 9 – November 18
- (no class November 11 in observance of Veteran’s Day)
- Time: 6:00 p.m. – 8:30 p.m.
- Location: McHenry County Sheriff’s Office – Training Division (subject to change)
The CPA features classroom sessions, discussions, and hands-on demonstrations highlighting the many divisions and operations of the Sheriff’s Office. The goal is to provide participants with an enjoyable, educational experience while expanding understanding of the services we provide to the community.
Eligibility:
- Must be at least 18 years old
- Complete an application
- Pass a criminal background check
- McHenry County residents receive priority, but non-residents are welcome to apply
- Cost: Free
Graduates of the CPA may be eligible to apply for the Sheriff’s Office Volunteer Program when openings are available.

Applications are available only on our website at www.mchenrysheriff.org/community/cpa and must be submitted by September 1 at noon.
