Democrats and Republicans brought fruition to the idea of ending taxes on groceries by Marengo’s Philip Panko.

Panko mightily disturbed Democrats by advancing the idea.

Non-Home Rule municipalities screamed about the lost revenue from state government.

The result was the Democrats voting to allow them to impose a local grocery tax.

The Pubic Finance course I took in grad school at the University of Michigan taught that officials who received tax money should be responsible for levying it.

Bear the political pain for the taxing pain of their constituents.

Now comes non-Home Rule Fox River Grove imposing the tax, but not happy about having to do so>

It’s like a teenager being told he or she has to pay for their own food after graduating from high school.
