In the section of the Marengo newsletter written by Finance Director Megan Lopez, she outlines the results of passage of the March referendum:

1% Non Municipal Home Rule Sales Tax

On March 19, 2024, the residents of Marengo voted in favor of a 1% Non Municipal Home Rule Sales Tax.

With the approval, if the referendum passed, the City would repeal the requirement to purchase a vehicle sticker

tax. Based on current trends staff is estimating near $700,000 per year in additional revenue for the City to use on road improvement projects.

Project priorities shall not only be based solely upon existing roadway conditions, but also existing conditions of underground infrastructure.

The City may also want to consider prioritizing roadways

based upon traffic loadings. Project priorities will be assessed and presented to the Council for approval each year during the budget process.
