National Night Out Community Cookout

The Lake in the Hills Police Department invites you to the annual National Night Out Community Cookout event. There is no cost to attend our event and it is open to the community.

Please come celebrate with us and show that we stand strong together and against crime. Free hotdogs, chips, and pop will be provided*. (The asterisk says they may run out. Come early for eats.)

There is always so much to see and do for the entire family!

What Is In Store This Year?

We have so much else special in store this year for the community and there will be so much to see and do for the entire family!  We are also grateful to have the support of our many community partners that will be at the event to provide our community resources should they be needed.  

• Touch-a-truck with fire trucks, LITH police and McHenry County Multi-Jurisdictional SWAT team trucks, LITH public works trucks, and Flood Brother’s specialty trucks.
• Hand-print paint a squad car!
• Ride the mini peddle cars around tiny town’s streets.
• Lowe’s Lake in the Hills will be here with an awesome craft for the kids.
• Visit with LITH Parks and Recreations and the Rec2U crew who will have games and activities and fun planned inside of the “tiny town” area.   
• The Algonquin Area Public Library has cool surprises in store for the kids! 
• McHenry County Sheriff’s Office K9 demonstration 
• Talk to the Algonquin-Lake in the Hills Fire Protection District and see their firetruck and ambulance or learn what you need to do to become a firefighter! 
• Meet your local 9-1-1 operators from the Southeast Emergency Communications.  Bring the kids by to learn about calling 9-1-1 and family/home safety. 
• Options and Advocacy will have sensory play activities for kids and can talk to you about the many ways they are here to help support our community for neuro inclusive counseling, autism resources, family support and much more.
• Refuge for Women can arm you with information if you know of women in need of assistance.
• The Pioneer Center can help improve the lives of individuals challenged by developmental disabilities, behavioral health issues and homelessness. Come see how they might be able to help you or someone you know. 
• The Child Advocacy Center (CAC) is an amazing resource in McHenry County, advocating for children in crisis, offering support to families, connecting resources, providing information on reporting abuse, and much more. Come by and talk to them to learn more.
• Meet the LITH PD Police Chaplin, Chaplin Mark Wood! A police chaplain offers confidential support to not just members of the police department but also our community!!  Chaplin Wood is active in officer wellness and support, spiritual support, and community-police engagement. Chaplin Wood is also a Pastor at the New Life Baptist Church who offer additional community support.
• Looking for senior adult resource information? Visit with McHenry County TRIAD! TRIAD is law enforcement, older adults and aging network professionals working together to prevent older adults from becoming the victim of fraud/scams and raising awareness. There is also always activities going on in the senior community as well as support and services available. TRIAD can help point the way. 
• LITH Public Works and Community Development will be out with information and to talk to you about your questions, concerns and needs. Come over and say hi and meet our amazing team members.
• LITH PD’s Social Services team will be out to answer questions and to held provide community resources that extend outside the walls of the PD.  
• Do you like shows like CSI or true crime stories?  Visit the PD’s Evidence Technician table and learn about crime scene investigation.  Bring the kids and see fingerprint lifting! 
• Learn more about DUIs and DUI enforcement.  Stop at the PD’s DUI table.  While you’re there try the “fatal vision” impairment goggles.
• At the PD’s Recruitment table, a police recruiter can answer all your questions about getting into the law enforcement profession.
• The PD is active all year round with programs and special events.  At the PD’s Community Relations Table learn about what programs and resources the police department offers.
• District 158 School Resource Officer Sieradski will be here to welcome students, answer questions and provide tips for parents at the PD’s SRO table.

Name a Snow Plow!! 

Who is ready to name the next Public Works snow plow?! Help Public Works Director McDillion and the incredible crew over at PW and name the 2025-2026 snow plow.  

We recognize the nationwide event is held on the first Tuesday evening in August; however, LITH PD will host the event on Tuesday, Aug. 5, 2025 from 5pm-8pm, LITH VILLAGE HALL 600 HARVEST GATE, LITH. This helps us accommodate families and additional services provided by our community partners. Police officers and village officials will be in attendance. 

About National Night Out

This event was nationally founded in 1984, and is sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch in the United States and Canada. The purpose of this event is to increase awareness about police programs in communities, such as drug prevention, town watch, neighborhood watch and other anti-crime efforts. It is also meant to help bring the community together to show criminals that as a community, we stand together against crime. For more information, visit natw.org.
