I drove by West Beach on the way to pick up a book at the McHenry County College Library and stopped to take a photo of the haze.

Way back in 1963 when this was part of the Huntley Park District I was a Life Guard briefly until I figured out I could make more in the heat treatment plant of Precision Twist. (Too few hours as a Life Guard, even though it paid more per hour.)
That was before West End activist Leona Nelson made the Huntley Park District folks an offer they could not refuse.
I can’t remember what information she had that officials did not want revealed, but it must have been quite damaging.
