Back on Friday, June 20th, demonstrators gathered along Route 31 outside the McHenry Library,

I was on the other side of the street, where only two people held signs.

The threat or actual loss of Federal funding was the topic of the rally.

As a legislator who helped conduct library financing hearings throughout Illinois in 1973, I never head any mention of Federal funding.

What the librarians wanted was the State legislature to allow them to raise their tax rates without a referendum.

But, when I asked if they had asked their voters, I can’t remember any saying they had.

The report we issued was the best in my sixteen years of being in the Illinois House…,undoubtedly because of the support and research of those in the Illinois State Library.

A week ago, I got inspired to ask the Crystal Lake Library for documents showing Federal funds it has received.

The reply said there were no such documents.
