McHenry Police Charge Driver Involved in Fatal Crash

John Birk, Chief of Police of the McHenry Police Department, announced today the arrest of a subject in connection with a fatal motor vehicle crash that occurred in the early morning hours of Monday, July 28th 2025.

At approximately 12:30 AM, the McHenry Police Department and McHenry Township Fire Protection District (MTFPD) responded to the intersection of Richmond Road (IL Route 31) and McCullom Lake Road for a reported three vehicle crash.

The initial investigation determined a red 2006 Audi A4 had been travelling south on Richmond Road when it collided with a black 2015 Nissan Sentra at the intersection of McCullom Lake Road.

The collision also caused a 2003 Toyota Echo to be struck.

The Toyota had been parked, unoccupied, in a parking lot in the 1800 Block of Richmond Road.

The driver and only occupant of the Audi, Jason K. Land, 18 of Fox River Grove, was transported to Northwestern Medicine McHenry Hospital for treatment of his injuries.

There were two occupants in the Nissan, a 19-year-old female and a 14-year-old male.

Both were pronounced deceased at the scene.

At this time the McHenry Police Department is not releasing the names of the deceased to allow time for appropriate notifications.

The McHenry County Regional Crash Assistance Team responded to the crash scene to assist in the
investigation.

The team consists of police officers from the McHenry Police Department, Woodstock Police Department, Spring Grove Police Department, Harvard Police Department, Cary Police Department, the Johnsburg Police Department, and the Lake In The Hills Police Department.

The intersection was partially closed for approximately seven hours while the crash team conducted its investigation.

The preliminary investigation determined the Nissan had been travelling north on Richmond Road and attempting to turn left (west) onto McCullom Lake Road.

The Audi, which was travelling south on Richmond Road at a high rate of speed, disregarded the traffic control device (red light) and struck the Nissan.

During the afternoon hours of July 28th, 2025, Land was released from the hospital, taken into custody, transported to the McHenry Police Department and processed through the booking procedure.

JASON K. LAND, age 18, of 114 Harding Avenue, Fox River Grove, Illinois, was charged with the following:
