Headline in the Chicago Tribune:

The Judge said, “There’s nothing wrong with building coalitions, understanding your opponents and allies and generating good will to get a seat at the table.

“There is also no reason that can’t be done openly and honestly, that doesn’t need phony contracts false invoices and concealed jobs.”

From the Chicago Sun-Times:

The Sun-Times quotes Judge Manish Shah:

“You preferred secrecy and lies.

“You preferred Mr. Madigan. You chose his way, and the consequences of that choice are yours to bear.”

Assistant U.S. Attorney Diane MacArthur argued, “Michael McClain’s efforts on behalf of Michael Madigan allowed Madigan to use ComEd like a benefit-fulfillment warehouse, with Michael McClain pulling no-show jobs and other benefits off the shelf, boxing them up and delivering them straight to the speaker.” [Emphasis added.]

Convicted along with McClain were former ComEd CEO Anne Pramaggiore, ex-ComEd lobbyist John Hooker and onetime City Club President Jay Doherty.
