Traveling from New Trier Township to the far reaches of his 9th Congressional District, former Republican National Committeeman Richard Porter previewed a potential candidacy for the United States Senate.
With Democrat Dick Durbin, elected in 1996 over State Rep. Al Salvi, retiring, Porter sees a once in a generation chance that Republicans to win the seat.

The room was pretty full with upwards of thirty Republicans in attendance.
I found most interesting his involvement with President Bill Clinton’s impeachment.

Porter had connected attorneys with Paula Jones, who sought representation for Clinton’s sexual abuses. Later there was a connection with the Monica Lewinski scandal in which Democrats defending Clinton tried to prove that Special Prosecutor Ken Starr was not truly independent because of contacts with Porter.
Learning Porter served on Vice President Dan Quale’s staff, one could certainly conclude he knows the ins and outs of Washington.
