IL Freedom Caucus files resolution urging Gov. Pritzker to opt Illinois into federal school choice program
Springfield, IL – The Illinois Freedom Caucus has filed two identical resolutions, HR427 and SR383, urging Governor Pritzker to opt Illinois into the new federal school choice tax credit program created under the One Big Beautiful Bill.
This program allows individuals to receive a 100% federal income tax credit for donations to Scholarship Granting Organizations (SGOs).
These SGOs provide scholarships to help families cover the cost of private school tuition, homeschooling expenses, tutoring, and other educational needs.
Similar to the former Invest in Kids credit, this program is especially helpful to working and middle-class parents.
The resolution calls on the Governor to take immediate action by notifying the U.S. Department of Education and establishing a system to certify SGOs within Illinois.
The Illinois Freedom Caucus is issuing the following statement:
“Opting-in would allow Illinois families to benefit from the program and restore scholarship opportunities that were eliminated in 2023 when Governor Pritzker and Democratic leadership ended the state’s Invest in Kids tax credit program.
“Thousands of low-income students lost access to education funding. The new federal program revives that opportunity without costing Illinois taxpayers a dime.
“Every child deserves the chance to succeed, and every parent should have the right to choose the education that works best for their family.
“We hope that Governor Pritzker will ignore the big money unions. who hate competition in education and do right by our kids.
“We invite all members of the General Assembly, Republican and Democrat alike, to join us on this resolution and help working families deliver a quality education to their children.”
