From the Lakewood Village Board agenda package for Jully 15th:

Consideration for Approving an Agreement for Legal Services Related to
AFFF PFAS Litigation

GKW & W, along with Mike Stag of Stag Liuzza, has been engaged by municipalities in Illinois to represent them in connection with litigation in federal court in South Carolina against manufacturers and distributors of products containing called per- and poly-fluoroalkyl substances (PFAS). PFAS is a “forever chemical” that causes a varieties of cancers and other medical problems.

Firefighters used PFAS as a part off their fighting foam.

PFAS found its way into groundwater.

As a result, millions of Americans have been exposed to PFAS.

Participating in the settlement also affords municipalities the opportunity to apply for additional monies if PFAS turns up in the water system after engaging in the settlement.

There is no cost to the Village for participating in the class action settlement.
