Vehicle Accident

On Saturday, July 12th, at approximately 7:20 p.m., the McHenry Township Fire Protection District (MTFPD) was dispatched to a motor vehicle accident with reported entrapment at the intersection of Prime Parkway and Illinois Route 31 in McHenry.

Initial reports indicated a transport van crash with multiple injured occupants.

Fire crews arrived on scene within six minutes and found a heavily damaged transport van that had struck an electrical pole.

ABC reports being told the driver fell asleep.

Multiple victims were found on the ground outside the vehicle.

It was quickly determined that no occupants were entrapped.

Firefighters began to immediately triage patients and render aid.

Crews also encountered arcing power lines at the scene.

Due to the number of injured patients, additional ambulances were requested to the scene.

In total, fourteen individuals were involved.

Nine patients were transported to area hospitals with injuries ranging from minor to severe.

One patient was airlifted by LifeNet to Advocate Condell Medical Center.

Two patients were transported to Mercy Health Crystal Lake, two to Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital, and the remaining to Northwestern Medicine McHenry Hospital.

Five patients were evaluated on scene and declined transport.

A total of two engines and seven ambulances operated at the scene.

A band was on the way to perform in Milwaukee from Aurora.

The incident remains under investigation by the McHenry Police Department.

MTFPD was assisted at the scene and through change-of-quarters coverage by the Spring Grove, Nunda, Wauconda, Woodstock, and Wonder Lake Fire Departments.
